Year 5&6 Elterwater

We are a class of Year 5 and 6 pupils who enjoy learning and make the most of the many opportunities on offer at North Lakes School. Our teacher is Mrs Greenwood; she makes our learning fun and enjoyable. Miss Rollings joins us on a Tuesday afternoon helping us learn and achieve our best.

This year we continue to build our learning power so we will often hear our teachers discuss learning muscle and offering us a range of strategies to use to become ‘lifelong’ learners and know what to do if we are stuck in out learning. So far, we have been exercising our perseverance and collaboration muscles and this term. We focus on noticing and reasoning muscles too as well as following our positive mind-set manifesto. Watch our page for further information on learning power in the coming months.

Each term we participate in a Reading Challenge to encourage us to read many books, magazines and newspapers. The different challenges get us to read more, reach our targets and enjoy the world of literature! During the Autumn Term we will be participating in a The Victorian’s reading challenge - which level do you think you will achieve? We read every day in class, sometimes in a Guided session with Mrs Greenwood, sometimes as a study buddy for Year 3 or 4 pupils and other times we will be busy completing Group and personal reading. As we say at North Lakes 'Kids Who Read Succeed!' Good readers become good writers, this term we are reading a wide range of materials as well as studying two novels – Street Child by Berlie Doherty and Cogheart by Peter Bunzi.

In Elterwater we work hard in our learning to develop the 5Rs -Relationships, Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reflecting and Risk taking. All skills are important ingredients to success in our learning at North Lakes School. We are enquirers too, Philosophising and constantly asking questions about many aspects of our learning and life.  There is never a quiet moment in our classroom! We will also be sharing our learning on  FROGlearn  – keep a lookout for our proud pieces!

To complement our learning at school we have a homework schedule and we keep ourselves organised using our home school diaries. Sumdog is a fun way to keep our maths, grammar and spelling sharp!

We are looking forward to the year ahead in Elterwater class, we will work together to create a great learning atmosphere this year and we are looking forward to doing the best we can!

Many thanks for reading
