Our Year 6 debate teams, Amy F, Katie W, Neehal and Archie, took part in a workshop and competition at QEGS this term. They learnt all about the skills of debating, how to give a balanced argument and speak with confidence in front of a crowd. They then had a few weeks to work on their debate topics – ‘Voting age in the UK should not be changed to 16’ and ‘Primary children should not do SATS’. These topics are particularly tricky but the children worked hard at school and at home gathering facts to support their arguments.
On the day, our teams faced difficult opponents but were a credit to us! They put their ideas forward with confidence and really applied all of their debating skills. Many thanks to Mrs Atkinson for escorting the children to and from the event.
