Year 6 Bassenthwaite Lake

Welcome to Bassenthwaite Class Page. We have had busy and exciting year so far, and are looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that we will face. We have been working really hard on our Cumbria in Bloom project and linking this to all aspects of learning. The garden is a work in progress at the moment, but we are hoping that we can leave a legacy for everyone else to enjoy in the future!

We are really trying to push ourselves this year with our reasoning in maths, so that we become Maths Masters!  Each week a new problem is placed on the display, and in any free time that we have we must try to complete it.  This is helping us to think in depth about the methods that we use to solve a question, as well as consolidating the learning which we do in class.

We love reading in Bassenthwaite!  Each morning we take 30 minutes to read our class text, ‘Rooftoppers’ by Katherine Rundell. We try to make predictions and summarise what we have read, as well as thinking about the author’s choice of vocabulary and inferring what they mean. These can often lead to detailed and vibrant discussions, in which we question, listen, respect and respond to others.

Our school councillors, Josh and Fearne, are doing an excellent job. They have listened to our ideas and have shared these with the school. They have worked hard to help make life at North Lakes fun and challenging.

We have had a really exciting and enjoyable time in Year 6 and we are now preparing ourselves for the future, when we move to our new secondary schools. This is less daunting, as we have had the opportunity to visit and welcome pupils and teachers to North Lakes. We are looking forward to working with Mr Harnett at UCC on a Science Project, which will be ‘Out of this World’!
