It was a fabulous May day when we travelled to the Sculpture Park in Wakefield - just what Y5&6 needed after working so hard all year.
We were amazed as we entered the site of Bretton Hall, officially now the Sculpture Park. We started with our delicious packed lunches, sitting out in the open air in the vast open park.
During our day we looked closely at the different sculptures, we discussed the artists work, the materials the sculptures were made from and what message they were trying to convey. Some of the sculptures were interactive such as Anthony Caro's Promenade. He said:
" I used to think that sculpture was something outside of which you were. - but why should it be something to be outside of?"
We discussed how the sculptures made us think and feel; whether we had seen anything like it before; how the sculpture could be seen to be promenading - we watched people get involved with the promenade! Lots of sculptures and lots of discussion - a truly fantastic day!
