Early in the Summer Term, Year 5 students ventured to UCC for an action-packed morning of Science. As soon as we saw the Science block, we knew things were going to be different! Split into two groups, we got stuck into hands-on experiments: extracting DNA from a strawberry and making a protective pod for an egg. It was exciting to use a variety of acids and other technical equipment in the labs – getting a taste for secondary Science and leaving us all wanting more! The journey back was full of science led conversation, with our group keen to discuss what we had learnt.
Here are some thoughts from the pupils that went:
Ray C: ‘It was very exciting and made me wonder what other experiments we can do at secondary school.’
Katie B: ‘I LOVED it! It didn’t feel like a lesson because we were having so much fun!’
Ryan G: ‘The whole day made my brain hurt I was thinking so much!’
