ULL Spring Update (April 2022)

What a busy term we have had here in Ullswater Class. We have continued to impress both Mrs Cookson and Miss Johnston with our enthusiasm and are really getting into the stride of our learning here at North Lakes School.

In Literacy, we have worked hard on our writing stamina and become more independent in using our editing code to improve our writing. We have written Kennings, non chronological reports and we have ended this term by writing our own Viking Quests basing it on our class read; Beowulf. We loved creating our own mythical creatures and thinking how our hero might overcome them!

In Numeracy, we continued with our Multiplication and Division topic which led really well into our Fractions Unit. We have really impressed Miss Johnston and Mrs Cookson by making links in our learning and explaining our thinking. We have learned the 4 and 8 times tables and we will continue to practise this and the 2, 5, 10 and 3s over the summer term.

In History, we have loved learning about the Vikings.  It is such an exciting part of British history and as we were able to handle artefacts lent to us from Tullie House and dress up in traditional clothes it really helped us to imagine what life was like in Viking Britain. It was made even more exciting when Hrothgar, our Viking expert, came to visit us. He told   us stories and got us involved in acting out parts of their history - really bringing our learning to life! In DT, we designed and constructed our own Viking boats and then wrote a non chronological report showing all we learnt about them.

This term, we have enjoyed lots of exciting scientific investigations about Sound and Living things. We have had loads of fun investigating how sounds are made as well as looking at changes in pitch and volume. We worked as a team to ensure that our tests were fair, we made careful observations and recorded our results clearly. We have also carefully studied classification keys and have even made our own (including one about super heroes!).

This term we have been lucky to take part in a gymnastic program which is run  by the gymnastics team down at the Leisure Centre. We have been working on our flexibility, strength and coordination as well as practising our vaults, work on the bars and beams. Our thanks go to Lauren and Ina who have really put us through our paces!

Well done Ullswater, you have worked so hard over this term and we love your resilience and team work!
