The Big Sing Smiles (July 2019)

On 2nd July, North Lakes School Choir and Grasmere group journeyed to Gateshead to celebrate The Big Sing Smiles.

The weather was fantastic as we enjoyed our packed lunches overlooking the River Tyne and caught a glimpse of the Millennium bridge ‘smiling’ as it tilted (blinked) to let a small cruise boat through. Grasmere group also explored the fantastic sensory room at the Baltic Contemporary Art Centre – it was amazing!

During the Big Sing, on the Sage’s huge stage many live musicians were singing and playing the accompaniments and backings for our tunes and songs. They were accompanied by our very own First Access musicians, who played their Flutes and Clarinets under the direction of Mrs Tuffin.

We sang lots of songs throughout the afternoon including: Ain’t No Mountain; Keep Me Warm; Don’t Worry, Be Happy; and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - a particular favourite. All songs were workshopped with Ella Jarman-Pinto. This was one of the last opportunities for our Year 6 singers and they were a credit to the school. Once again, our pupils were great ambassadors and representatives of the North Lakes School!

We are really excited that all of this year’s Big Sing participants will be awarded their Arts Mark Discover Award – well done!

Many thanks to all our helpers: Mrs Allan, Mrs Beaty, Mrs Catana, Miss Davies, Mrs Hodgson, Mrs Hulse-Davies, Mr Nellist, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Tuffin and all of our school staff, who were singing and dancing in the aisles alongside the children!
