The corridors and classrooms throughout North Lakes were filled with the sound of magnificent singing on Wednesday 22nd March as we flew our platinum flag for Sing Up Day.
The day began with a special Charanga warm up to get our whole bodies geared up for singing followed by a collection of this term’s favourite songs including ‘Let Love Shine Through’, the Sing Up Day anthem by Emily Barden.
From the moment children boarded the school bus until the end of the singathon, our timetable was packed with choruses from our favourite songs – every lesson began with song. Other Sing Up Day activities included singing in the playground and the announcement of our new singing leaders.
The day concluded with our special sponsored singathon where over 40 parents and friends joined us. During the event each team sang their own song which included Helvellyn’s moving rendition of ‘True Colours’ and Blencathra’s rock classic ‘Don’t Stop Believin’. Both Great Gable and Red Pike sang numbers from Matilda the Musical.
Other singathon roof-raisers included ‘Be Safe’, ‘This is Our World’, ‘Put a Nose on It’ and ‘Rather Be’. Our singathon closed with a special video recording of ‘Let Love Shine Through’, which has been sent off to Sing Up HQ in London to be included in the National Digi-choir.
Singing is a free instrument and everyone has one! Everyone was able to take part in a very inclusive day which raised over £1400 for school funds – a very impressive amount of money which will be used to help pay for enhanced learning opportunities throughout the school. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored and attended our event.
Our online Crowd Funding page is still open and you can still donate by clicking the link. Videos of the day can be viewed on the school website by clicking or scanning the QR links.
