North Lakes School Choir helped to raise the roof of St Andrew’s Church with this year’s Penrith Schools’ Music Association Carol Festival on Monday 4th December. As ever, this event was popular with Y5&6 choir members, however only 30 children could take part as space was limited and as usual our Christmas Choir gave an uplifting ‘Platinum’ performance, having worked so hard through most of their lunchtimes and at home using our FrogLearn site over the past few weeks. This year’s beautiful carol ‘My Bairn, Sleep Softly’ was written for us by Jilly Jarman and included a chorus composed by choir members.
The Carol Festival is a unique collaborative, non-competitive event which celebrates the musical talents in everyone regardless of ability. Our children were, once again, a credit to the school and great ambassadors for Sing Up and music in Cumbria. You can listen to their performance on the school website.
This year the Carol festival had a new format which made it feel even better. Children from North Lakes performed alongside singers and musicians from Hunter Hall, Kirkoswald, Plumpton, Stainton, UCC and QEGS
‘They all sang amazingly, well done NLS Choir! It’s put me in the festive mood.’ - Ms Humes
‘Lovely evening, great performance – thank you!’ - Mrs Fox
‘Absolutely lovely, performed beautifully, very well done!’ - Facebook Visitor
North Lakes would like to thank everyone who came along to support the children at this very special event: parents, governors, and staff; not forgetting everyone who made this event possible including Lakeland Music for selling tickets and St Andrew’s Church for hosting the event. During the evening there was a Salvation Army Foodbank Collection Point and the retiring collections raised just over £600 which will be split between Eden Young Carers and East Cumbria Family Support.
