NLS Choir at #LOCinthelakes NHS Conference (March 2018)

On Wednesday 7th March the NHS North Cumbria Commissioning Group invited our Choir to lead a workshop at their learning festival event ‘LOC in the Lakes 2018’ at Rheged which had the theme of ‘Building Success Through Better Communication’.

We began with a workshop for the delegates, and our choir joined them in the auditorium whilst Mr Soulsby taught a warm up and then began to teach everyone the Sing Up Day Anthem ‘Be the Change’.  Next our singing leaders gave a short presentation to outline the benefits of singing and explain why North Lakes is a Platinum Sing Up School.  The choir then demonstrated their BSL Signing before teaching the audience ‘Step it Up’ – we soon had everyone on their feet!

To close the LOC in the Lakes Conference, the choir gave a platinum performance of ‘Be the Change’ before getting the whole conference on their feet for ‘Step it Up’. Footage from the conference and a short interview can be seen on our website.  Here are some quotes from some conference participants:

‘Great day learning, reflecting and being inspired by the wonderful kids who did you proud and there were some cool moves! Really impressed how they were not at all fazed by the grown-ups! A credit to North Lakes School’ - Julie Clayton

‘You were all absolutely awesome today! Your singing was amazing and you were fantastic role models for children and young people in North Cumbria. Your passion for music shone through and you taught us all to “Be the Change”, - Nicola Jackson, NHS Cumbria
