National Sing Up Day (March 2015)

On Wednesday 18th March schools around the country joined together to sing this year's National Sing Up Day song, I’m Still Singing. This beautiful and uplifting song, arranged for young voices, celebrates the power of singing.

We don’t just get together to sing on National Sing Up Day - we spread a little singing every day. We believe singing is the perfect complement to core subjects, and it enhances learning retention, language development, listening skills and concentration.

Putting singing at the heart of our school life has helped to forge a strong sense of community and a calm and tuneful atmosphere in which to work. Singing increases the lung capacity, gets blood pumping and triggers the release of endorphins that make you feel healthy and happy.

National Sing Up Day is a very special date on the North Lakes calendar each year – this year was no exception as the Sing Up Platinum banners flew proudly on Wednesday 18th March. Pupils slipped on their Sing Up hats, T-shirts and badges to ‘Spread a Little Singing’ with our Sing Up ambassadors ensuring that every lesson started with a song!

Our day kicked off with a special Sing Up Assembly with parents, family and friends invited.  It began with our Sing Up warm up and each team, Blencathra, Great Gable, Red Pike and Helvellyn ensured that there was no place they’d ‘Rather Be’ when it comes to singing at North Lakes! This favourite was followed by ‘Ain’t no Mountain’ and ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’.

Mr Pincombe presented badges to the school’s new Singing Leaders, their names having been secretly announced during our warm up!  Our singing leaders will play an important part in helping others and sharing their talents over the coming year. We congratulate Bradley H, Chloe T, Chloe P, Katie G, Ellis P, Keeley T, Callie B, Charlotte G, Abbie B, Jack H, Ruby D, Layla H, Jessica B, Hannah R on their new responsibilities.

Our assembly concluded with a fantastic performance of the Sing Up Day anthem ‘I’m Still Singing’ which has been filmed and sent to Sing Up HQ for a special compilation.  Our performance can be heard on the school website. As assembly finished, the singing then spilled out into the corridors, playground and to the school field. What great ambassadors!

Thanks to everyone for their support and thanks to all parents and family who came along and made this a really special occasion! If you enjoyed our Sing Up celebrations, do tweet about them using the following address:
