BBC Live Art with Nick Sharratt (Feb 2015)

At 11am on the 25th February 2015 some of the classes at North Lakes School took part in a live Art session screened from the central library of Birmingham. We were entertained by CBBC presenters Ricky Martin and Michelle Ackerley who introduced the famous illustrator of the Tracey Beaker books - Nick Sharratt. Nick inspired us and gave us top tips for creating comical characters. Drawing alongside him and thousands of other children across the nation we were given a brief insight in to the characters he creates and how to show different moods with just a tweak of a line or the addition of a small feature.

With pens and pencils in hand and sketch books at the ready we all managed to create cute characters who displayed a range of feelings. Here are some of our efforts. Watch out there may be a budding artist here who could be the next illustrator for Jacqueline Wilson!

Following on from the live screening Year 6 have been inspired to take part in the Little Painting Challenge. To enter we had to draw or paint an entry on the blank side of a postcard and pop it in the post! 1000 of the best entries including the winners will be exhibited in the newly refurbished Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester from the 4th of May 2015.  Some of us have been inspired by particular themes or settings, while others have chosen to experiment with a range of media to create an effect. We believe entries will be judged on originality, creative use of materials and overall impression and impact of the artwork. Good luck Year 6!
