Y6 Boys Football (Oct 2022)

Thursday 6th October saw two Year 6 teams enter the Penrith Primary Mixed Football tournament. In windy conditions, our budding stars showed a great attitude, worked hard together, and enjoyed a lot of fun.

North Lakes, playing in purple, showed a lot of talent and won the event, winning two games and drawing one. Goalscorers Frazer (2), Jacob (2), Riley S (2) and Oliver were supported by a lot of clever play and solid goalkeeping from Jamie.

North Lakes United, playing in white, featured great resilience. They stuck together and improved throughout the event. While they lost three games against some strong teams, they kept running, backed each other and never gave up. Two goals in the final game for Daniel and Ollie were a good reward for all the team’s efforts.

It was an absolute pleasure to take the two teams to Frenchfield – congratulations to all involved for representing the school so well, and thank you to staff for their support.

EDEN VALLEY FINALS

North Lakes progressed to the Eden Valley Finals at Appleby on 2 November. The team grew in confidence and teamwork over a series of games, winning their group after beating Long Marton, 2:1, TS 6:0, an drawing with Plump 0:0.

An epic semi-final followed against local rivals Beaconside. It was 0:0 after extra time despite some great football from both sides – and North Lakes won on penalties with Jamie making some good saves and Oliver scoring the decisive penalty.

In the final, North Lakes faced a strong Plumpton side and we finished as runners-up in Eden, which is a great achievement.

…AND ON TO CARLISLE

The school team ended its footballing journey this year at the Cumbria Finals in Carlisle on 5 December. Here, we played against the seven strongest school teams in the county.

North Lakes put up a good effort and showed real resilience in some very tough games against some excellent and well organised teams. We created some good chances but were not  rewarded with any luck on the day. We did not manage to win any games, but the children never gave up and showed a good attitude and respect to their opponents throughout.

Congratulations to Yarlside from Barrow who are the 2022  Cumbria champions!  Overall, the school team had a good term, and learned a lot about how to win, and how to lose well, together.
