At the start of the Summer term, Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic break away at Derwenthill Outdoor Centre. This was a new venue for North Lakes School – and we were not disappointed!
Derwenthill is a big house set in large, beautiful grounds in Portinscale at the head of Derwent Water. The facilities at the centre were excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed their bright and comfortable dormitories, as well as the excellent food on site – including a huge cooked breakfast!
All the children pushed themselves and experienced new things. They encouraged one another on the daunting High Ropes Challenge and collaborated well while canoeing on the lake. Resilience was shown on a nearby hill walk and everyone enjoyed the fully “immersive experience” of the ghyll scramble.
In the evening, the children enjoyed team games on the lawn, and a forest skills fire making session before a calming story before bedtime around an open fire.
Our instructors were excellent, and really got to know the children. Many thanks to the staff and adults who joined us and helped the children to have a fun packed, challenging time. Congratulations to all of the children who worked so hard, behaved so well, and were the absolute stars of the residential!
