On June 2nd and 4th groups from Year 3 and 4 took part in the Bikeability scheme where they all successfully gained a Level 1. The children learnt how to check their bikes were safe and ready to ride, how to mount their bikes correctly and to be ‘bike ready’. They then completed a series of games to help them become more confident to ride with one hand and eventually practised signalling. The children really gained confidence in their biking skills and will hopefully be ready for Level 2 which they will be completing in Year 6. Watch out Bradley Wiggins. Also please remember Beacon Wheelers meet on Thursday at Frenchfield at 6.30pm
Year 6 have just completed a week of cycle training which builds upon the basic skills taking the next vital step of riding safely on the road. The children spent sessions riding in the town of Penrith, cycling through the town centre with their instructors. They learned to mount and dismount safely, to vary their speed and to anticipate any eventuality. All cyclists learned essential road signals so that they can ride more safely within traffic.
