WW1 Penrith Museum Visit (Summer 2016)

This term, we have focused our learning on the First World War.  In order to support our learning in Y3&4, Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston took a trip to Penrith Museum to learn about how local people contributed to the Great War.  We learned about the Lonsdale Pals and looked at the roll of honour to see if we shared our surname with any of the heroes.   We also learned about the propaganda used to convince young men to sign up; and later on, women too.  It was interesting to look at the different artefacts sent back and forth from war, and the medals that the men won for their heroic acts.  The children asked lots of interesting questions and learned some fascinating facts.  Thank you to all the parents who helped us walk down and to Penrith Museum for being so accommodating.
