World Book Day (March 2016)

Well what a fantastic day!  So many characters from the magical world of books joined us on the 3rd of March. Assembly was a great celebration of our favourite reads.

We met characters from a variety of genres: fairy tales, adventure stories, myths and legends, classical tales! We had a few characters from non-fiction – even Bear Grylls lingered somewhere.

Staff were asked to share childhood reads and costumes which included a fantastic Lady Macbeth, Noddy, a Demon Headmaster, and Bert from Mary Poppins.

During the day children participated in a range of exciting World Book Day activities.  A book voucher was also given to every pupil to spend before the end of March on one of the exciting reads which can be exchanged for the £1 voucher.

We also have a Scholastic Book Fair arriving in school from the 12th - 18th of May. It will be open before and after school with so many books to choose from. So put that date in your diaries and save some pocket money!

Coniston, Windermere and Ullswater had a lovely surprise on World Book Day with a visit from local author Jennifer Clark. Jennifer came in to share her new book ‘The Naughty Dragon’. After reading the first chapter, the children were able to ask questions about what it was like being an author, including:

  • When did you know you wanted to be an author?
  • Where did you get your inspiration for the story?
  • How long did it take to write?
  • Do you have any writing tips?

Jennifer was very passionate about the fact that if you want to do something, if you work hard, then you can achieve anything. Everyone was greatly inspired and Jenifer has kindly offered to read some of our own writing- we can’t wait to see what she thinks of it!    We hope in future Jennifer is going to be able to come into school for a book signing opportunity.
