World Book Day (Mar 2022)

World Book Day this year was a wonderful celebration of reading for pleasure and the fun lasted a whole week! The children were treated to a range of new stories in their classrooms: every day, each class had a “Blind Date with a Book”! Some fabulous picture books had been wrapped up with clues and the children loved unwrapping them and sharing the stories.

Extra reading activities during the week built on the children’s enjoyment of these new texts.  We even took part in ‘Live Lessons’ with authors and the cast of Matilda the Musical.

Our World Book Day Frog site is packed full of  ‘Booky’ activities - you can still visit it!

Towards the end of the week we all took part in our  first North Lakes book swap event. Most

children brought a pre-loved book to school to swap with their classmates. The children helped enormously in setting up and overseeing a fair exchange and were then so happy with their newly exchanged books. Year 3 were surprised that they could take them home and enjoy them. This free and fun activity will be repeated!

Reading is so important, as it underpins all the learning we do in school in every area and it is truly a skill for success in life. We urge the children to read widely and often, and to follow their interests in books, whatever they may be.

Keep enjoying your reading – we hope that you get book hooked, and enjoy spending the £1 World Book Day
