Early in the summer term North Lakes took two teams to the Eden Tag Rugby tournament finals. Both teams showed great resilience and really good skills and were a credit to the school.
For many of our B team, this was their first event and they showed really good attitude and teamwork, winning once, drawing twice and losing twice (only by the odd try) against some strong teams. Well done to Tom, Bradley, Ella, Ruby, Charlotte, Kieran E, Lewis W and Harrison.
Our A team made a confident start and went on to win all four group matches, then qualifying for the semi final where they beat Beaconside 6:2.
In the final against Kirkby Stephen the scores were level, 5:5 at full time. After five minutes of extra time the score was 8:8 and so it was decided to share the title- both North Lakes and Kirkby Stephen were crowned Champions and went on to represent Eden in the County Final – a first for North Lakes.
The County Finals took place in Cockermouth in May and proved to be a very challenging event, playing against the very best in Cumbria. Our team performed really well and scored some excellent tries, drawing two (5:5 and 6:6), and narrowly losing two (4:5 and 3:4), so we did not progress beyond the group stage. But a great effort and a good day was had by all!
Thanks to all our parents who supported us at both events. Congratulations also go to Declan, Toby, Megan, Nathan, James, Ben, Amy, Lainey and Jack M G.
