St Andrew's Church Visit (Nov 2015)
This term , Coniston, Ullswater and Windermere classes have visited St Andrew’s Church in Penrith as part of their learning in English and RE.
The pupils were met by Reverend Rachel, who very kindly shared her knowledge of the church’s history. We learned that St. Andrew’s is nearly three hundred years old and has recently had its pipe organ refurbished. The altar is at the front of the church and usually has the Christian symbols of a cross and a candle on it. Just a single goblet and dish were there to help explain the communion service. All pupils were able to go into the vestry and were amazed at the narrow, winding staircase that the bell ringers use.
The pupils gathered notes, sketched some important objects including the pulpit, lectern and font. During our English lessons, we have used this information to write non chronological reports about St Andrew’s church.
The church visit was very informative and interesting. We would like to thank Reverend Rachel for her time and support.
