Sports Day (Summer 2017)

For the last few years our Sports Day has been blessed with great weather. Sadly the same could not be said for 2017, when due to slippery conditions we were twice forced to postpone the event, and we could only complete the full day of competition over two afternoons! The wet weather did not dampen the children’s enthusiasm, however, and after a stirring parade that included an Icelandic warm up chant, over 200 children competed in twelve team events that tested a variety of running, jumping, throwing and collaborative skills. The tournament reached a climax on the track with the finals of the sprints, long races and Y5&6 javelin and shot.

As a result of their efforts, the children were grateful for the donation, from Eden Valley Mineral Water, of Aqua Pura mineral water sport bottles for each child. The company have sponsored our Sports Day for a number of years and their help is very much appreciated- thank you!

The winners of the team work event this year were Red Pike, who outscored their rivals narrowly as a result of their excellent communication, mutual support, organisation and behaviour. Red Pike also picked up the prestigious Performance Points Trophy, scoring strongly over the two sessions in both team events and the track and field finals. Well done Red Pike; you have put a marker down for the other teams to beat next year!

Many thanks to all those parents and staff who helped to supervise the event, and made it all possible - a big thank you to Mrs Greenwood for leading proceedings and organising things so well. This year we sold ice creams and held a collection in aid of a community defibrillator, which we hope to install at North Lakes over the coming year. We raised a total of £220, which is a great start to our appeal- thanks to all who contributed and to pupils and staff who wore red socks on the day to remind us of our fundraising efforts!
