School Organisation

There are currently seven classes in school. In September 2023 there were seven mainstream classes in school and 194 children on roll.  There are a mixture of single age and  mixed age classes.  The school’s published admission limit is 57 per year group.

Generally a teacher will teach his or her own class, but at times, for various reasons, children may have an opportunity to work with a different teacher.  Additionally, Subject Leaders may teach their specialism, at certain times, to other classes. A small number of children who might need additional support are also supported in small groups for English and Maths.

Most children starting at North Lakes School in the autumn term join from Brunswick Infant School, with whom we have very close links. Staff meet together throughout the year to ensure continuity and a smooth transition between our schools. The children from Brunswick will be provided with a number of opportunities to visit North Lakes. Children are of course also welcome to join North Lakes from other schools, and their induction will be supported carefully.

Children leaving North Lakes School usually transfer to either Queen Elizabeth Grammar School or Ullswater Community College. Close links are maintained with both Secondary Schools.

There is a full exchange of information which provides a basis for a smooth transfer from junior to secondary school. Visits to prospective schools are arranged during the Summer Term preceding transfer, and staff from both schools visit to meet the children.
