With the World Cup running deep into July and the Premier League starting in August, it seems there is little break from the football season these days, and it is the same at North Lakes! On Saturday 7th June, a 5 a side squad took part in the Sands Centre 5-a-side tournament and played really well. In a replica of the real event, North Lakes represented the “Korean Republic” in Group H. NLS drew 3:3 with “Russia” (Yewdale); won 3:2 v “Algeria” (Eaglesfield), and won 4:0 against “Belgium” (St. Margaret Mary’s), and won the group! In the last sixteen NLS beat “Germany” 7:1, (which makes us better than Brazil!).
In the quarter finals North Lakes beat “Bosnia-Herzegovina” 4:3 and that meant we faced “Switzerland” (Scotby) in the semi finals. In a tight fought match, we lost 4:2, and Scotby went on to win the tournament and the “World Cup Final”. Well done to the whole squad: Toby, James, Ben, Nathan, Daniel and Taylor E, and many thanks to all our parent helpers including coach Mr Ellis and driver Mrs Simpson. Thank you all!
