Each year, our school Riding groups are invited to join a Summer Picnic. This year we were invited to Walby Farm at Crosby on Eden, near Carlisle. The farm has lots of exciting activities, indoor and outside. Lots of other school groups to join in the fun day, so it was a great opportunity to socialise. We were very lucky that we had a beautiful sunny day for our visit to the farm.
Ben, Ike, Kieran and Matthew arrived at Walby on the school minibus and had the chance to meet and greet the other children.
Our first meeting was with a rather speedy tortoise who liked having his chin tickled. Next it was a tour of all the animals which included calves, pigs, rabbits and lambs. All the children fed the excited lambs and did well to hold onto the milk bottles as the lambs were really boisterous!
After lunch it was time to please ourselves and the children had a go at big slides, trampolining, go karting and using the mini diggers in a sandpit. There were plenty of fun things to choose from.
The highlight of the afternoon was the sheep racing. It was hilarious to watch and we all cheered our favourite and Ike’s blue sheep romped home as the winner!
