Police Sports Tournament (June 2014)

In June we took two football teams to Newton Rigg for the annual Police 5 a side tournament. Again our A team performed strongly, and played some of the best football of the year, beating Lowther 7:0, Morland 10:0, and local rivals Beaconside 13:0! After such great play in the group stage the A team was confident of doing well in the semi final.

Strangely this was not to be and despite dominating the game, with many chances against Appleby, North Lakes were out of luck and Appleby managed to win 1:0 with a break away goal. This was a big disappointment but the team took the defeat bravely and behaved really well, sticking together as a team - well done.

Our B team worked really hard in some tough matches and as time went out they found their feet and began to pass well and play more for each other. While we lost early games against Warcop, Clifton, Appleby and Greystoke, North Lakes did not give up and were delighted to gain a well deserved win against Morland- a really good effort.

A newly formed High 5 Netball team made their first appearance on the 26th June at the annual Police Competition held at Newton Rigg, and what a positive first outing it was! NLS used the first game against Warcop School to find their feet, nerves were calmed and a determination to win was ignited. We dominated the next game against Morland School, with Abby H, supported well by Lucy B & Jessica B, scoring a flabbergasting 5 goals within as many minutes!

Callum E and Jack G were an unbeatable attacking team against Lowther School, scoring the 2 goals of the match and beating them in style. In the final match we met St Catherine’s School who went on to win the competition. Giving it all we had, we managed a draw with this team with some accurate passing from Ellie and courageous defending from Charlotte.

All of the NLS team were looking accurate, smooth and a credit to Miss Hayes and Mrs Phillips. We can't wait to see what they do next season! Remember old and new members, boys and girls are welcome to Netball club - we will be back for the first session of the season in the second week back after the summer hols!
