Unusually, a cooler cloudy day was a welcome relief at North Lakes School annual Sports Day. After a scorching couple of days at the beginning of the week, thoughts had turned to whether the weather was going to be too hot this year! However, it turned out the day could not have been more perfect, with warm temperatures, just enough sunshine and a cool breeze.
This years Sports Day again took a whole day with a 'round robin' of multi-skill events being run throughout the morning and into the afternoon. After 2 wins on the trot, it was Blencathra who were defending their title as champions.
Shot-put, slalom, javelin, target throw, standing long jump, netball and running relay were just some of the activities, and each team competed to collect as many points as they could in order to win the much coveted Sports Day Shield.
All teams gave it all they'd got, showed excellent attitudes by Not giving up, Encouraging others and Doing their best (NED would be proud!).
Many thanks to all our helpers including the excellent UCC Sports Leaders and Work Experience students, parents and staff.
After the activities were completed it was on to the track for individual events, with the final of the Sprints, Shot-Put, Javelin, Distance Races and the Team Relay. Highlights included the Year 6 sprints, won by Liam S and Kennadie. Other year group sprint winners were Nathan and Lainey (Y5), Jordon and Emily (Y4), Harvey R and Aleksandra (Y3).
