Macy wins Cumbrian Schools Writing and Illustration Competition (Summer 14)

Macy Hicks of North Lakes is a great reader and a fantastic writer. On Tuesday 1st July Macy attended a special Writers and Illustrators day at Keswick School. She had been shortlisted after judges enjoyed her ‘Cactus of Doom’ Story. We had entered all of our Y5 and Y6 stories. Several children from schools throughout Cumbria were also shortlisted for illustrations or their writing. There were three categories shortlisted: Key Stages 2, 3 and 4

Macy enjoyed a special day with an illustrator and other short listed winners, at a special Comic Master Class Award Day. Kev, the illustrator, announced overall winners at 2pm and Macy was the overall winner of her category. Kev was bowled over by Macy’s entry:

'I found the Year 5s and 6s were the most exciting reads overall, with a great variety of styles and approaches.

My overall favourite is Macy from Y6’s epistolary story with drawings, very witty. The closing line of the letter "so that was my week how was yours?" was the winning stroke, and I couldn't help but be won over by the illustration. It showed the best of all the elements of humour, surprise, and originality'.

Well done, Macy, a fantastic effort– we are very proud of your success!
