Joint School Choir Sings in Remembrance (Nov 2014)

On Sunday 9 November 2014, Penrith Royal British Legion held its Annual Remembrance Service at St Andrew’s Church. We were delighted that a combined choir from North Lakes and Beaconside Schools were invited to perform to a packed church at this very significant centenary event.

The children sang a beautiful musical arrangement of John McCrae’s 1915 poem, “In Flanders Fields”. It was particularly moving that while the children sang, the congregation remembered nearly 200 men from Penrith who fell in the Great War, and for many the choir’s singing was the highlight of the service. The Reverend John Oliver OBE, who was leading his final Remembrance service, wrote to school to thank the children, and said, “Your children made an excellent contribution to an especially poignant and moving occasion.”
