Remembrance Day, November 11th 2014, was marked with a very special assembly at North Lakes School.
Year Six have been learning this term about the impact of World War 1 on Penrith and the history of the Lonsdale Pals, so the children were able to take a leading part in the remembrance assembly.
Wreaths of poppies adorned with poems were laid on a replica cenotaph, and the children sang a beautiful arrangement of “In Flanders Fields”, the 1915 poem from John McCrae.
Some historic film footage was shared, a moving individual soldier’s story was told and a minute’s silence was immaculately observed.
Well done to all of the children and thanks to the many parents and friends who joined us for this special assembly.
