Governors' Corner (Summer 2018)

As the school year comes to a close, the Governors would like to extend their thanks to all the school staff for their hard work and dedication shown throughout the year. This has resulted in an excellent set of Key Stage 2 results for the Year 6 pupils.  We would also like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all parents and helpers who support the school in many ways, both in the school and on external trips and visits.

We would like to welcome Mrs Parkinson to the Governing body who has volunteered to take on the role as a co-opted Governor and brings with her a great knowledge of the school and its workings.  In September, Mr David Hallett will join us – he is a retired primary Head Teacher who has recently moved to the area and brings a wealth of education experience with him.  Mrs Margaret Clarke left the Governing body during the year and we would like to thank her for her contribution over many years.

When the new term begins, we will have two vacancies for Parents to join the Governing body and further details will be sent out in September.  If any current parents are interested in joining us, please get in contact with me via the school office or the school website.

During the year, the Governors have visited the school on numerous occasions to help them in their role and reported their findings to the Head Teacher.  They have also been active in supporting numerous visits, trips, sports functions and outdoor residential trips.  This helps us to understand the children and to see them ‘in action’ outside of the classroom and gain an appreciation of the value that such activities provide.  In addition, Governors have been involved in the recruitment of teaching staff at both the short listing and interview stages.  Much of the work by Governors goes on behind the scenes via the four committees that we have which cover many topics including; Teaching & Learning, Outcomes for Learners, Finance, Staffing, Health & Safety plus many others.

We wish the pupils in Year 6 all the best for their future outside of North Lakes School and thank them for the contribution they have made to school life.

Finally, we wish you all a good summer break and look forward to seeing you in September.

Dr Martin Duke, Chair of Governors
