Feet First (Dec 2016)

North Lakes School is part of a new county council initiative - FEET FIRST! This is a positive project to encourage children to travel to school in a more active way. The Feet First initiative replaces the old WOW scheme which many of our pupils participated in at Brunswick School. Feet First asks children to walk or scoot to school at least once a week and record this information in the classroom.

We wrote to parents a few weeks ago - thanks to the many who replied sending their support; any child can sign up now in class and we will resend a letter in the new year. As a reward for committing to the scheme, the children will be given a lovely colouring activity booklet and a set of Olympic themed stickers each term to praise them for their efforts. We are hoping these resources will be in school before the Christmas break so children can get familiar with them and see their initial efforts rewarded.

Over the past two weeks, the School Council have been helping classes to collect data and set the children off on the right path for the new year.  Every class has a wall chart where children can tick to show their efforts. We are hoping many children will be able to support this new, safe, Feet First scheme. Look out for more details next term!

It was fantastic to see such a positive response to the Feet First Competition entry we asked children and families to complete. It was a difficult job to choose our top three entries. In the end Mrs Sewell did a great job and selected three of the best designs to go through to the county final.

Congratulations to our school winners: Macey B, Alyssa S and Jessica G. They will all receive a selection box and a place in the county final.

Well done to all for their tremendous efforts!
