EVSP Disability Sports Event (Dec 2015)

The Eden Valley Sports Partnership invited North Lakes School to come along and spend a morning experiencing wheelchair basketball and a game called Boccia at Penrith Leisure Centre on Tuesday 1st December.  The rain poured but that didn’t dampen the fun or anyone’s enthusiasm!

We all started off right away by getting on to the specially adapted wheelchairs and wheeling around the basketball court.  Everyone took to the chairs like ducks to water and were soon challenging each other to a basketball match.

Some of our players stood out as very talented and speedy basketball players and the representatives were very impressed with our players’ agility and determination. After a break we all experienced the game of Boccia, this is a bit like bowls only you need to be sitting down to play.  This game was also great fun and people’s competitive sides soon came out.  Here are some of our reviews of the day:

  • Kevin really enjoyed this game.
  • Andrew and Kieran said they had had a great morning.
  • Matthew said that he had played wheelchair basketball before and hoped to play again soon.
  • Leah thoroughly enjoyed wheeling herself around the court at speed!
