This term all the classes have had the opportunity to visit Penrith Library. This is a fantastic, free resource right on our doorstep. Whilst at the library the children were able to get a library ticket, if they didn’t already have one, to take out a book, and they were also shown how to use the library system. The library has an enormous variety of books to select from and if they don’t have what you are looking for they will try to order it in for you. Over the summer the library will be running their annual Summer Reading Challenge.
This year the challenge is called ‘Gadgeteers’, it starts on Saturday 16th July and ends on Saturday 10th September. Pop into the library at any time during this period to sign up and join the challenge. Once you sign up you will receive a special Gadgeteers collector poster, books to read over the summer and stickers for each book you read to add to your poster and help you complete the challenge. As part of the challenge you need to read six books in total then you will receive a medal and certificate. There is a website that runs alongside this with a whole host of ideas. You will be able to set your own goals, rate and review books, play games, enter competitions, unlock extra rewards and use the book sorter to find and recommend books to others. Have a look at the website by clicking the image below.
Penrith Library Facebook page has lots more information for parents on it. You will be able to find out about what is happening over the summer – find out about all the events and activities that are running this summer.
Make sure you visit the library this summer and keep reading. Remember: Children who Read Succeed!
