Allysa Wins Trip for Elterwater (Mar 2017)

Think back to Children In Need 2016. Do you remember Greggs Bakery inviting everyone in school to design their own Pudsey Bear biscuit? We had many entries from all classes at North Lakes, and a number of winning entries were actually made into a rather large biscuit with the children’s own design iced upon it.

Alyssa’s design was selected from all the schools in Penrith as the overall winner of the competition, gaining a prize to bring her class along to Greggs for a tour of the bakery and an icing master class. What a marvellous surprise this was for Elterwater!

Children were treated to a behind the scenes tour at the factory on the Gilwilly Industrial estate. The tour included seeing ingredients arrive in bulk, sorting and weighing quantities to make a product, mixing the ingredients, cooking, preparing, packing, transporting and finally tasting!

Have a look at the pictures and read the interesting facts below – we were all certainly blown away by the scale of the whole production at this local factory.  We left for home with many delicious samples to share with our families and a greater knowledge of how some of Greggs’ delicious biscuits are made from start to finish.

As always, many thanks to all the parents who made their time available to support this trip. It was a great opportunity to see how our learning in the classroom applies in the wider world.
