A Word from the Head (Summer 2019)

As we break for the holidays after a busy summer term I would like to thank you all for your support this year. We have had a successful year in school, where we have enjoyed great sporting success, many musical events, and memorable residential adventures. We have been developing the way we learn Maths this year, and the children have been really engaged with this. We are pleased this term that our commitment to Philosophy for Children has been recognised again with a Gold Award

being reissued to the school.

We are sorry that Miss Sally Johnstone will be moving on in September, and we wish her every success in her new post at Hallbankgate School. Miss Johnstone has worked really hard this year and has been tireless in her efforts for the children and to support her colleagues in the school team. Thank you for all your commitment to North Lakes School Miss Johnstone – we will miss your kindness, patience and sense of humour next year!

Our Orian kitchen team is also changing in September, with Dionne Perez-Martin moving on to live in the Canary Islands over the summer. Dionne has been an absolute joy to work with: positive, cheerful, kind and so accommodating with the children. We will miss Dionne and wish her every happiness in the future. I am delighted to announce that Brenda Wharton will be joining us as our new school cook in September, and we look forward to working more closely with Brenda, who we know very well.

Finally, I would like to thank the many people and organisations which have helped us this year in so many ways. Thank you to the Friends of North Lakes for their support in raising valuable funds to support learning opportunities. Thanks to North Lakes Spa, Ullswater Steamers, Keswick Motor Museum, Sports Direct (Penrith) and The Pot Place for their generous donations towards our fundraising, and to Eden Valley Mineral Water for their donations to our Sports Day. We are very grateful for all your contributions to the benefit of the children.

Have a wonderful Summer holiday, everyone, and good luck to Year 6 on their next learning adventure at their new schools in September. We will see you back in school on Wednesday the 4th September!
