Welcome to Bassenthwaite Lake Class Page. We are all looking forward to the new school year and the challenges and opportunities that we will face. In our class there are 28 children, who all have different dreams for their futures. We discussed our hopes and dreams, which now all feature on the class dream catcher – we hope we can achieve some of these by the end of the year!
We are really trying to push ourselves this year with our reasoning in maths, so that we become Maths Masters! Each week a new problem is placed on the display, and in any free time that we have we must try to complete it. This is helping us to think in depth about the methods that we use to solve a question, as well as consolidating the learning which we do in class.
We love reading in Bassenthwaite! Children have their own reading book which they can read at the start of the day and we expect that children should take their book home with them and read as much as possible. We are also about to start our class guided reading text. This term we will be reading Holes, by Louis Sachar. Just from looking at the front cover and reading the blurb, we cannot wait to get started.
Our topic this term is Celebrating Peace and it is allowing us to discover more about WW1. This is a great topic, as we can make links in our writing of historical narratives, discover the differences in countries in 1914 and today, as well as allowing us many opportunities to research and create. We are paying a particular focus to how WW1 affected those in our area, and children have been asked to research their own family history.
