Year 3&4 Buttermere

Welcome to Buttermere Class!

We are a fantastic bunch of Year 3 and 4 children who are taught by Mrs. Cookson (Monday and Tuesday) and Miss Johnston (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) We are also supported in class by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Cardia.

Our School council representatives this year are Roman and Joey and they are supported by our Shadow Councilors; Ocean and Emily. They meet regularly with Mrs. Spibey and help to make decisions which will improve our school.

Throughout the year we will work hard in our learning to develop the 5Rs -Relationships, Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reflecting and Risk taking. These will help us become successful learners. You may hear us talk about the  5 B’s – this is a strategy we use when we become stuck in our learning to encourage our independence.

We will also be sharing our learning on our online platform site FROG – watch out for our proud pieces and points of interest on our timeline as well as on social media.

An important part of our learning is our homework. This helps us to practice things that we have learnt at home as well as teaching us to become organised and resilient learners. All homework for the week is set on a Friday and we have a full week to complete the tasks.  One important part of our homework is Reading. We SRIVE for FIVE- read 5 times a week at home and are rewarded with team points and even prizes!

Sumdog, White Rose app and TTRS are fun ways to keep our Maths skills sharp. In our Maths lessons, we are developing a mastery approach, promoting enquiring minds to gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. We work in separate year groups for our daily Maths lesson. Year 3's work with Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Cookson and Year 4's work with Mrs. Greenwood.

We read everyday at school. During our Close Reading sessions, we read one text together as a class; practicing fluency, expression and accuracy. We discuss questions, language and themes which arise in the text. Having time for independent reading is also important and we end the day with 15 minutes where we relax and get stuck into a book of our own choice.
