NLS Wins Golden Apple Award: Best Use of Technology 2017 (Oct 2017)

In October we were delighted to announce that we had been awarded the Cumberland News Media Golden Apple Education Award for Best Use of Technology 2017 for our work with Frog Education on our Frog Site.  This year there have been lots of developments within this: the introduction of our Parent Portal, a Staff Dashboard, and of course our ongoing popular pupil site.

Mr Soulsby and Miss Rollings went along to the University of Cumbria where more than 200 guests were invited to the Golden Apple Awards Ceremony, which was sponsored by University of Cumbria and Inspira.  Our particular award was sponsored by Lakes College.  The Judges were looking for evidence of creative and innovative use of technology that further students' academic or vocational learning and achievement and how it has achieved its visionary aims.

The judges said ‘North Lakes were transforming learning for more than just its pupils; understood the technology and had a clear vision’.

Rhys Kidd-Scannell from Frog said  “Preparing your students for the real world is happening with such great examples of technology supporting learning and parental engagement. The international collaboration projects have given students enviable experiences that must be so exciting to be part of!”… “Pupil voice is so strong at North Lakes and winning The Best use of Technology Award just shows how technology is supporting real life engagement rather than forcing it. What an evolving and exciting place to learn!”

In January, Mr Soulsby will be travelling to the BETT Education and Technology Show in London to share and showcase our success and achievements with other schools.

We would like to thank the whole school community for your continual digital engagement with us.  Visit our Parent Portal regularly to share your child’s success, vote in our polls and to join our discussion forums.  In addition, ask your child to show you their site too!
