Key Steps Gymnastics (March 2018)

Once again, after weeks of careful training and dedication, North Lakes School Gymnastic Squad entered 5 wonderful teams in the first round of the Key Steps Gymnastics competition, hosted at Penrith Leisure Centre. In preparation for the event, all of the gymnasts learnt a set routine to perform on the floor; improved their flexibility and strength for the body management element and rehearsed vaulting.  The children were a credit to the school: all of them trying their best, showcasing their talents and showing exemplary behaviour. Despite only the two top-ranking teams (in both Key Steps 2 and Key Steps 3) making it through to the Eden Final, NLS managed to secure three of our teams places during the next round. What a fantastic achievement!

Following this, on Friday 23rd March, our 3 remaining teams entered the second round of the increasingly competitive event. The gymnasts performed with style, holding their own in such a tough line-up! Unfortunately, despite coming in second place, our Key Steps 3 team just missed out on a place at the Grand Final. However, our Key Steps 2 teams came in both first and second place, ensuring NLS a place at the Grand Final in the last few days of the Spring Term. We are very proud of all of those who have competed, in all stages of the competition, and wish the 6 remaining gymnasts the best of luck in representing Eden Valley in the final round.

The event is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to shine, with many of the children reporting that it has boosted both their self esteem and confidence. It is also a great opportunity to see some good examples of gymnastic talent, put on show from all over the county.
