GRA Riding (Autumn 2022)

The end of the year cannot pass us by without the mention of the dedicated RDA community. They come to Rookin House in all weathers to ensure that ‘Grasmere’ group can learn to horse-ride.

We meet past pupils who now attend UCC or the Edington Centre but who have continued to ride and develop a love of horses- a fantastic hobby.

Our Grasmere pupils have to be resilient. They first have to learn how to mount a horse.  They then have to get the feel of the horse and saddle. Some of our pupils are trotting and playing games. They can confidently get their horse to ‘Walk on’ and turn in a particular direction. All of our pupils can dismount. The children have learn to sit and balance. Several of children give instructions.

Their love of riding is only too evident.  The children have built bonds with particular horses and learn about Horse Care.’ Progress is always made.  Great relationships are also built between riders and leaders.  RDA you make a difference!
