Dizzy Goals (Oct 2015)

In September, the United Nations committed to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years:

  • End extreme poverty
  • Fight inequality & injustice
  • Fix climate change

Every one of the Global Goals is linked to solving our climate crisis. So here at North Lakes School we decided that we needed to help spread the word of these 17 goals. Instead of our traditional Harvest Festival theme, each class investigated just one of the Global Goals and presented their findings to the rest of the school, and to parents, in the hope of showing just how important they all are. To raise awareness further, a lot of children and some staff also took part in the Dizzy Goals campaign, with clips shared in assembly.

Here are just some of the facts that the children shared:

  • 3 Million children die every year from malnutrition
  • Currently only 49% of children will attend secondary school
  • In the next 15 years it is expected that twice as many people will be affected by flooding- that’s 54 million people
  • 2/3 of the illiterate people in the world are women

We will continue to reflect and revisit the Global Goals this year and for years to come so that that we do not forget them. We will also continue to commit to making changes within school. Already the school council have introduced a new system so that our plastics and metals are now recycled.

We are not a generation of bystanders, we are Global Citizens!
