Carlisle Cathedral Visit (April 2011)

We visited the Carlisle Cathedral where we were given a guided tour by Mrs Bumfrey. She was very knowledgeable and has worked in the cathedral for many years. She told us that the cathedral was 823 years old! We imagined just how many people had been through its doors over that time! We saw the detailed arches and compared the ages of them; the older arches were semicircular and the newer arches had points at the top. We were lucky enough to sit in the priests’ chairs and look at the detailed carving beneath them. Finally, we visited the treasury where all of the precious items belonging to the Cathedral were looked after. We were very lucky to have the chance to visit this precious and ancient building.
