Author & Mountaineer, Simon Yates Visits North Lakes School (Nov 13)
The visit of Simon Yates was a highlight this term as he had us spell bound with his talk of his life as a mountain climber and author. He was a great inspiration to us all as he chatted to us about his job, how much he loves to climb, how he makes a living from it and how it has inspired him to write books about what he does.
Simon was a real hit with everyone as he was frank and honest about his development as a writer. He told us that he had to learn to write and become an author. Once again we learned how important it is to take risks, be resilient and to keep going. Simon talked about the importance of his editor and how as a ‘Writing Buddy’ the editor gives him constructive suggestions on how to develop his writing.
Simon brought along his kit bag of essential climbing gear and he showed us many slides of climbing adventures. A fantastic, memorable assembly! Thank you, Simon!
