Somme Centenary Success!

I am delighted to let you know that North Lakes School has been selected by the British Council, from a very large number of schools nationally, to participate in the Somme Centenary Event from the 28th June to the 1st July 2016.

This will mean that we can take a number of children to France for the event which will be funded by the British Council. We will be one of only twelve schools, and approximately 300 children of all ages, that are travelling from Britain to take part in this symbolic ceremony.

Importantly, the British Council are now linking us with a French school from the Somme region. We will undertake an arts, languages and history based project with them that will involve our whole school. This is so valuable because it means that all children will be able to take an active part in the project, and we will then have a twinning link to take forward for the future.

We will learn full details of the project at the end of January, and after that we will write to you with more information. Some families have already expressed an interest, which enabled us to proceed with our application – thank you! Once we have full details of the event, there will be a further opportunity for any children and families that wish to apply, and we will also be able to finalise our selection criteria for the event, in case we are oversubscribed.

Thank you all for your support which was a major factor in being selected for this exciting event.
