Some Year 6 children were invited to participate in a writing project at UCC, with Miss Newsham, who was a superb teacher. Our focus was Journalistic Reports and the theme was the 3 Little Pigs.

It was an action packed afternoon at UCC.  We each had an Investigative Reporter’s Notebook which was a very useful resource.  We established the features of a journalistic report and then we planned our own. Prior to this we had read and discussed two great examples discussing our preferences and checking that all the essential features were there. 

The following Thursday we reflected upon our journalistic report planning and watched a film of the ‘The Real Story of the Three Little Pigs.”, which was very humorous.   We planned and wrote our own Journalistic Reports and then edited them after we had shared them with our writing friends, using our “tool box” of hints.

Our work is now on display outside Elterwater classroom, showing the writing process and the outcomes form a very successful project. We were delighted to receive the following message from Miss Newsham at UCC, after our workshop:

“The students who came to UCC today were absolutely wonderful. It was a pleasure to teach vibrant, enthusiastic and attentive students this afternoon. All students were a credit to North Lakes. I really enjoyed the experience of working with them!”
