Y5&6 Coronation Garden Project Summer 2011)

Karen McDougall has been working with schools in Penrith to design the four corner pieces of the Coronation Garden behind the Town Hall. This garden was originally opened in 1937 to celebrate the coronation of King George V1! It has been sadly neglected. Karen is part of a team submitting a bid to the National Lottery for a grant to redesign and landscape the garden, so that it is inviting to the citizens of the town, and tourists. Our corner of the garden was a design to be based upon the castle. Each child in years 5 and 6 was involved in the designing, which had to meet stringent success criteria! A final decision was reached and our design incorporates an elephant! We chose this because an elephant’s tooth was dug up in the moat during excavation! We wish Karen luck with the lottery bid - it is well deserved!
