Ullswater Y4&5

In Ullswater we enjoy learning and discovering new challenges. Our class teacher is Mrs Smith.  Our class councillors are Ollie and Matthew.

We have decided on some class rules to help us with our learning;

  • We listen to the person who is speaking
  • We are respectful to others.
  • We look out for each other.
  • We care for others.

We are really enjoying our learning, in the Autumn term we were creating our own cartoons in our computing lessons, learning about Earth, Sun and Moon and human bodies in Science. We drew cave art with chalks and charcoal in art lessons and learning about the Stone Age in history.

In P.E we worked with Miss Potter and Mrs Sewell as well as Mr Bird and Mrs Greenwood. Our P.E days are Thursday and Friday. The Year 5’s have been learning to play the clarinet or flute for the first time this year, and are really enjoying the challenge. In D.T we created shelters, in R.E we learnt about religion in different countries. Our trip was to see Mayburgh Henge, near Eamont Bridge where we  discovered more about the Stone Age.

During Spring term we have been learning about the Shang Dynasty in our History lessons.  Finding out about Ancient China has been exciting. We have experimented with ink to write some symbols. We made these Chinese symbols into bookmarks. We decorated our own topic books using a Batik technique with hot wax. Our teachers are planning a special Chinese banquet for the end of this term. We will be baking and cooking our own spring rolls and curry.

In Science we have been learning about Electricity and took part in a workshop with STEM.  We made a question and answer game, which buzzed if you connected the circuit and got the right answer. It was great fun!

We are really enjoying our weekly swimming lessons at the Leisure centre. We try our best in our lessons and help each other.
