Running a Marathon in New York & NLS (Nov 2016)

To celebrate the fact one of our parents, Mo Kelly, Sonny and Dexter’s mum, had set out on a remarkable journey to complete the New York marathon, as a school we wanted to offer our support in a different way.   As Mo was completing her individual challenge for a police charity in New York we set off on our school challenge – to run a marathon between us all. The Year 3 and 4 classes completed 3 miles each and the Year 5 and 6 ran 4 miles between each class.

If you do the maths it goes like this…

  • Windermere, Coniston, Buttermere and Ullswater x 3 miles is 12 miles.
  • Elterwater, Bassenthwaite and Rydal x 4 miles is 12, totalling 24 miles.

That just left the running club to run a shared 2.6 miles.

All was completed during PE lessons with support from Mrs Ellwood and Mrs Sewell. A lot of the Year 5/6 children gave up their lunchtimes to complete the challenge, and the running club members completed their marathon effort of 2.6 miles on a cold Friday morning before school!

A massive well done to Mo for achieving this distance individually and congratulations to the children at NLS in playing a part in our team marathon.  Mo we hope you felt our support across the ocean and well done for all your funds raised for the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund. Nicola was a young serving constable who was killed in Manchester in 2014 and funds in her memory go to a counselling service for children who have been affected by the loss of a loved one through crime.
