Remembrance (Nov 2016)

Remembrance Day was marked respectfully by the children at North Lakes School again, and this year had extra meaning following our memorable trip to the Somme Centenary event in July.

At our remembrance assembly we were reminded again of the local Lonsdale Pals, and we also learned the story of Horace Iles, a 16 year old soldier killed on the first day of the Somme battle. Later in the morning, the choir sang beautifully at St. Andrew’s at the dedication of the Remembrance Garden, alongside our North Lakes poppies in the churchyard.

On Remembrance Sunday, Mr Pincombe told the story of our Somme visit at the town’s Civic Service while Kofi and Ben M read “In Flanders Fields” to a packed congregation.

The theme of Remembrance has been important in our learning this year – ask your child to show you more on the Frog Learn Somme Centenary Page.
