NLS Sports Day (July 2014)

In glorious weather on Wednesday 9th July, North Lakes held its annual Sports Day.

Children competed all day in their four whole school teams for the Sports Day Shield and Team Work  Awards. In view of the weather we were very grateful to Eden Valley Mineral Water Company who kindly provided over 200 bottles of Aqua Pura water, to sponsor the event!

Events included the javelin, discus and shot putt; hurdles, slalom and cone relay; skipping, bean bag throwing and baton relay, netball shoot, long jump and obstacle course.

After a rotation of the team events, we assembled at the track to watch the sprint and distance races, and the javelin and shot putt finals. The results of
these races and field events are shown opposite.

Many congratulations to all the children who gave it all they had got on the day! The children looked really smart in their Elite Fitness t-shirts and their support, organisation and encouragement for one another was a real feature of the day.

We would like to thank all of the parent/ adult volunteers who helped out on the day as well as our Y10 work experience students and our Y9 sports leaders from UCC, who all helped the day to run smoothly. Medals and trophies were presented at the end of the events by Hannah Bradley, a past pupil, recently voted as “Miss Teen Cumbria”, who had also helped out as scorer for the day.

The competition proved really close, and all four teams put up a great effort across the full range of events. The overall Sports Day team results are here: 1) Blencathra 2676, 2) Great Gable 2617, 3) Red Pike 2525, 4) Helvellyn 2441.

It was good to see that there was also stiff competition for the Team Work Award, but Red Pike were victorious once again with strong mutual support: 1) Red Pike 650, 2) Great Gable 543, 3) Blencathra 495, 4) Helvellyn 430.
